Tsunami And Relevant Thoughts Discussion

Franz: What is the state of our networks facing essential questions of rebuilding sustainable and resilient communities, villages, habitat in South East Asia? What do you think is needed in terms of action, but also in terms of structure?

Lucas: The challenge looks huge: help rebuild habitat from the distance, with no effective power, in a hurry, and doing better than what was there before. So some questions arise:

- "no effective power"? We can only act through others (unless we go there ourselves). So who are those others? We can make a list of who we know "there", or who we know "here" that has contacts "there". I'd like to set up pairs of twin-blogs so those "here" can help those "there" ... and the other way round.

- "in a hurry"? How long does it take to have an idea? Half an hour can do wonders and is certainly much better than nothing. What should we focus on? Franz suggests "rebuilding". Where do we start? With what we have or rather with whatever our aims are?

- "do better"? I guess that's easy if what was there was not very good to start with - trouble is, we don't have a clue of what was there to start with. And maybe we don't need to know at all. Imagine it's exactly what it is at too many places: a washed out environment full of people in need. Maybe it's precisely that what stops us from thinking further: all plans are washed away - but are they? What assets do we have there?

I have another question for us all: What if we were tremendously powerful? What do we want to see hapenning?

Please share your rough and tough ideas - anything to unfreeze our energy!

- Just start. Even if too powerless or too slow, this is about sustainable thinking. One has to learn. There are catastrophies all the time around the world. There is constant need for help and cooperation.

- Villagers first. It's their situation and they should be put in the positon to decide what they want. Not all those around fighting for attention and chances to realize their ideas.

- Build topology and knowledge and relationships. If this wiki is to be the center of a GV idea, then villages and their problems must be represented and representable here.

Lucas: "Villagers first", "relationships". How do we contact them? Who is already working on this so we can amplify it and be "the people at the other end of the phone"?
