WIND POWER

Started March 12,2006

Definitions:

As an ELECTRICITY SOURCE

  • wind power is generated through the use of a turbine, usually mounted on a tower. The turbine collects wind energy and converts it to electricity which is transferred to your houses breaker panel, allowing you to rely on your existing utility power supply as only a backup.

Wind Belt - Very Low Cost Wind Power Generator

See http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/industry/4224763.html?series=37 for a very low cost wind powered electricity generator, based on a 'wind belt' (ribbon) that vibrates in the wind, moves a magnet within a coil of copper wire and generates electricity.

The page has a video demonstration and explanation of the technology.

The best features of the design are the low entry-cost and that it starts generating electricity in very low wind speed, unlike turbines with gear-boxes.
